The Belton Pirates had an exceptional weekend in Oklahoma City, OK at NASA HS Powerlifting Nationals. There were 345 individual entries from all over the nation with team entries from TX, OK, NM, CO, KS, MO, IL, TN and all over the Midwest. The Pirates qualified 14 athletes for the event with 12 actually competing on the weekend. You can only count your top 10 individuals in team scoring which actually worked to our advantage because we only brought 10 boys. Our boy rose up to the challenge and finished 2nd in the nation as a team in the division of 9-12th grade Combined Unequipped Powerlifting finishing just four team points behind Kearney HS and just ahead of a powerhouse in Tennessee. Our 9/10th grade boys team finished as national champions for the Power Press division (inclusion of power hang clean). Our 9/10th grade boys also finished us runners up in the Unequipped Powerlifting division as well. It is the first meet in two years that our 9/10 boys have not won, but I think we will give them a little slack considering the level of competitionJ.

Nino Enna set a new national record in the total for Power Press division for the 114# 9/10th grade division.

Zach Willis also broke the 2010 national record for Power Press division and was the talk of the meet with many of the coaches, referees and judges.

Very proud of all of our kids and what they accomplished this weekend. The meet did not boast 25-30 lifters in a weight class like some of the meets we compete in, but many classes showcased 10-15 of the best lifters around the country. The final tally for our kids was three team plaques, 17 medals and two individual plaques.
